Hi Everyone, it's Jen, the crazy mom with all the twins! I am in desperate need of a babysitter and I am putting out the word to EVERYONE I know.

I am looking for a reliable, interactive, outgoing person to take care of my four boys Wednesday afternoons. This person could be in high school and drive over when school gets out or take the bus to my neighborhood. Or maybe a college student who doesn't have classes at that time, or maybe just someone who enjoys children and is available. ...

Thursday Trail Run 8/14/08

Next Thursday's trail run at Independece Mine will be starting at 6:30 pm. We will meet at Turner's (the yellow store) around 6pm and carpool up to the mine. This will be our last "official" VWRT trail run for the season, so I really hope everyone can make it-this is an absolutely beautiful run. It can be fairly cold up there, especially if it is raining, so be prepared with warm clothes, running jacket and hats.

We will continue to run on Thursday nights at 6 pm at Crevasse Morraine ...

"vandalism" (for lack of a better word) at Crevasse Moraine

Crevasse and Kepler trails have recently been marked with painted orange arrows presumably for the upcoming race and cross country running practice. I don't object to painted arrows on the trail itself - we've done this for trail night. What I'm disgusted by is that the cross country routes (marked with directional arrows with 'XC' beside them) also have 'XC' painted on several trunks of living trees on the Rooty Trail. This is totally unacceptable! Does anyone know who could have done this?? ...

As previously stated on the Mooseberry Stampede announcement, there will be a mountain bike and running race August 9th at Crevasse Moraine, one of our favorite local trail systems.

Half the proceeds of this race goes to Cure Kids Cancer, a program of the Children�s Miracle Network at Providence and the rest for the trail system here in Valley.

All races start and finish at the CMT start area (take Loma Prieta to the south off Palmer-Wasilla Hwy, more detailed directions on www.cmtatrails.org).

Pearl Izumi Whisper Jacket

I saw the Pearl Izumi jacket that we (vwrt) purchased last year for sale at www.reioutlet.com for something like $46.83. These jackets run very small (I bought a large, Kristin has a medium-just to give some perspective). It can also be shipped to the REI in Anchorage for free. I know there are people interested in getting a coat to have stitched on their own....

Mooseberry Stampede Mountain Bike Race and Crevasse Moraine Trail Run and Dog Dash will be simultaneous mtn biking and running races (different, but overlapping courses) starting at the Crevasse Moraine Trail head on August 9, 2008. The running races will be on the CMT system, including Mooseberry Mesa, and extend through the Matanuska Experiment Farm (university) fields to Kepler Bradley State Recreation Area, ...

Come play ultimate frisbee tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Palmer High School practice field at 6:30pm. Bring any friends or family you can think of. Come for as little or long as you like. And run as hard or cherry pick as much as you want. Spread the word..... If you have never played you can learn in literally two minutes. If you cant catch or cant throw that can be fixed as well.

Hi Ladies! As a new runner, I am always wearing whatever I have. Our gorgeous weather hasn't caused any overheating yet...but what am I to look for when buying clothing for running? What fabrics? What layers and how many? Where to shop? How much is too much to spend? (So, I don't get ripped off) Any advice will help!

Awesome!!!! I just watched the t-views (YouTube videos) about handlebar setup and gearing. I can't wait to watch the others too - lubing and cleaning, what to put in your saddlebag, frame design. And I guess there are podcasts too in t-chatter. The gearing video was really informative - anyone confused about shifting should definitely watch this.

We'll be meeting at Turkey Red in downtown Palmer at 7pm on Saturday August 16th.

Our book is Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. For fun, we'll also have a look at Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure by Larry Smith and Rachel Fershleiser. The latter book is one that you could glance through or read from cover to cover.

What a great group the Valley Women's Running Team is! I came to my first Tuesday night track run and knew so many of you that I felt at home right away. I also met a couple of new friends, how great is that?! My primary reason for wanting to join a group like this was to of course become a better runner but also to make new friends. So it looks like as long as my recovering leg behaves, I'll be around! Thanks again to you all for the welcome and to the coaches for getting me plugged right ...

Since it's an overcast day, I was thinking of doing an indoor activity. Squash is an awesome racket sport that gives you a great workout!! It is a lot of fun!! The court is also owned by one of the nicest families you'll ever meet!! I am willing and excited to introduce the sport to anyone who is interested, or to play with anyone who already knows the game. I plan on being there by 6 o'clock. PM me for directions. At last Tuesday's workout, a couple of the ladies got into a discussion about sport bra recommendations. Since I'm under-endowed, this is not a big issue for me but as I competitively horseback ride and show, it comes up regularly with the horse ladies who are *ahem* 'voluptuous'. (Me, I'm the one that when the instructor yells 'stick your chest out!' has to say 'I AM ALREADY!').

These are ladies who compete and look fabulous sitting a fast trot on big horses, so you know they know ...

Thanks to Natalie for hosting the trail run last night! That was awesome-such a beautiful evening! Great turn out too, the more people, the more fun. Thursday nights are such a great way to get to know other members of the team and to run with people who are not in your pace group.

any other dry trail near Palmer. I know it's short notice, but I am planning on running Crevasse Moraine tomorrow (Sunday) around 10 AM. I would love company if anyone wants to join, and I'm flexible on the trail. For instance, if the Lazy Mountain trail is open I could be convinced to do it instead.
